oh yes we are the greatest nation in the world ! didnt we win the golden globe awards recently for the best movie, best blah blah blah. yes it has finally put india on the world map, they recognize our talent, its an acknowledgment of the rising superpower, the shining .. india ! only for a small fact that the movie was not directed by an indian, the screenplay was not written by an indian. otherwise the cast was from bollywood, especially the protagonist and his female love interest !! arent these reasons enough to be graceful about this entire awards not being a credit to india as such but only for the movie .. thats all there is to it ! but no the media says nothing doing lets start the propaganda (apparently with origin to one famous psychologist to make money !! ) and all that one sees is the visuals of slumdog millionaire being the face of indian cinema. bollywood has no contribution to the movie, yes anil kapoor was the most visible face but then it was a role of a supporting actor, he was not even part of the main story that formed the movie. i saw the movie and i will not take any credit away from him ... his portrayal was perfect and he did it with elegance and elan. he played his part, imraan played his too but the major actors who captured everyones attention were the two love birds who had a soft corner for each other since childhood. the screenplay was good and i would credit much of the movie's success to the screenplay and direction. also in the backdrop of skepticism of the ecnoomy , job market and the false sense of security that goverments provide all around the world there is all the more reason to derive inspiration from this movie.
but we need to introspect, seriously why is the media or the indian psyche so attention hungry ... yes every poll in the newspapers are to do with no indian issues but how 'external' factors will/will not/maybe affect india. some issues are conveniantly ignored, people all around the world will be happy to hear what happened at mangalore, what happened at goa, what keeps happening in delhi, mumbai etc etc. is it only to portray those things which keep us in favour with others, while the real issues, issues that a common man faces is kept aside ? and the actions in mahrashtra against north indians .. i am so proud to call myself an indian .. and all these people are supposed to be my brothers ! can i call them so ?
and people have impunity to say that the movie for which rehaman won the golden globe depicts only the 'slums' of india .. that the foreigners derive pleasure looking at the poverty in india. i really want to scream from the top of my lungs .. are we so short sighted that we cannot even accept the problems , that we cannot even acknowledge that right outside our houses in bombay there is poverty all around and those people dont even have access to the basic amenities which we take granted. it is easy to write in a blog, it is easy to make judgments from the comfort and luxury that we are in. for heaven's sake it is a movie and let it be ! what happened to the critical analysis of a movie where you leave your bias at home.
